Why This Song Matters

When I was a little girl, my Granny Nora didn't just teach me the alphabet...

She sang it with me.

We danced with the letters.

More than fifty years later, I still know my alphabet, and I know how to spell. But every now and then, when my mind gets stuck on a letter, I quietly sing the alphabet song to myself until I find the letter I'm looking for. It still works today, just as it did when I was a little girl.

For many years, I never would have admitted that.

I thought I should have outgrown it.

Now I see it differently.

My granny didn't just teach me the alphabet...

She gave me a tool that has stayed with me my entire life.

That's why I created Granny Nora's ABC Song.

If singing helped me find my way...

Maybe it will help another child find theirs.

Maybe one day, many years from now, they'll still be singing it too.

Because sometimes the best lessons aren't the ones we outgrow...

They're the ones that stay with us forever.
